New Owners for Top Peebles HotelSeptember 2007
After months of speculation it has been confirmed today that missives have been concluded for the sale of the luxury Castle Venlaw Hotel in Peebles with the new owners, PAG Hotels, expected to take over the reigns next Thursday 6th September 2007.
John and Shirley Sloggie bought Castle Venlaw in November 1997 and it has gained and retained a reputation as one of the leading hotels in the Borders. Talking of the sale Shirley Sloggie said "John and I have enjoyed a marvellous 10 years at Castle Venlaw. Although a lot of our business comes from outwith the area we have really appreciated the support we have received form the local people. The time is right now for us to move on to something new. We are delighted that the new owners are retaining all the existing team and have committed themselves to "building on an already impressive product"".
John and Shirley came to Caste Venlaw after having successfully managed Dryburgh Abbey Hotel in St Boswells for 6 years. When asked what the future holds for them John told us "we are not absolutely sure what we are to be doing in the future but we do have several other business interests including Scotland's Hotels of Distinction, an hotel marketing group, that we took over in 2006. We still have our house and intend to continue living in Peebles".
